So it's time to add your first article. Hooray! Below are a few steps that will get you up and running. Don't fret, this is an intuitive process that will become natural to you very quickly.

Full documentation of Joomla! is available in your site's backend. Click here for instructions on how to access it.

1. Log In

Before you can begin adding articles, you will need to login. The easiest way is to add articles is via the administrative backend, which can be accessed by adding /administrator to the end of your domain name. (example: http://YouSiteHere.com/administrator) Use the username and password provided by your account executive.

The rest of the process can optionally be explained via a video tutorial, or you can continue with the text version. Click here to skip to video.

2. Open Editor

Once you are logged in, you will need to open up the editor. You can do this by clicking the "Add New Article" button, or by going to "Content" > "Article Manager" > "New"

3. Create Your Article

The editor works very similar to most word processing programs. If you're not sure what a button on the toolbars of the editor does, simply hover your cursor over it for a few seconds.

Once you have finished typing your article, continue to the next step.

4. Publishing Your Article

There are many settings that effect how your article is published. We'll only cover a few of the important ones here, but feel free to contact our support department if you have a question about a setting not explained in this tutorial.

  • Title - This is what your article's title will be displayed as. You must have a title in order to publish an article.
  • Section - This helps determine where your article is published. For example, if you are posting a video, you would choose "Videos" or "Media" or whatever section you have that best represents that content.
  • Category - Category is the sub-folder of Section. As with the Section, select the Category that best represents the content of the article. If you feel that the current sections and/or categories are no longer adequate, contact TCS to have your site's structure updated.
  • Published - Once you are ready for your article to go live, select "Yes" under the "Published" setting. (If you save it as "No", you're article will be saved but it won't be viewable on the frontend of the site until you change the setting to "Yes".
  • Front Page - This setting determines whether or not your article is published to the front page. Articles can be published to different sections of the site without being published to the Front Page.

Once you have adjusted your settings accordingly, click "Save" to save your article. Important: Always click "Save", "Close", or "Cancel" when editing or creating an article or event within Joomla! Never close out of a window or logout without first saving or closing an article within the Joomla interface!
